World Series of Online Chess

This tournament will happen four times per year as part of the new quarterly World Series of Online Chess. View the information about the inaugural tournament below.

When/Where: Sunday, February 16th at 12 pm/noon Eastern Time (11 am CT, 10 am MT, or 9 am PT) on lichess.org

Format: 6 rounds, game 25;+5, USCF-online-regular rated, two sections (Open & Amateur/U1300)

Prizes: $1000 in cash prizes (Open: $300 for 1st, $200 for 2nd, $50 for 3rd, $100 for top U1700; Amateur: $200 for 1st, $100 for 2nd, $50 for top U800); trophies by mail available upon request (email us to ask for this—$25 deducted from cash prizes)

  • In addition to cash prizes, the top finisher in each section will also receive free entry into DMV Chess online tournaments for three months.

  • Cumulative Prizes: We encourage players to compete in multiple events. Kids may compete in all three (scholastic, open, and blitz). Adults may compete in both the open and blitz tournaments. The scholastic player with the highest score across all three events will be mailed a special trophy. The open player with the highest score in the open and blitz events combined will receive a $100 cash prize. If both cumulative prizes are won by the same player, only one prize will be awarded.

Entry Fee Schedule (Signup Early!): $15 by 1/25, $20 by 2/1, $23 by 2/8, $26 by 2/15, and $30 on the day of the tournament. Note that the registration must be completed by 11:59 pm ET to be counted as received on that day.

  • Players with USCF ratings of 2000 or higher can register for just $1.
